Interested in helping to support systems level change to prevent chronic disease?  Take a look at these Albany Advocacy Days from DASH-NY members!

American Heart Association Advocacy Day:

Volunteers and advocates from across the state will come together to advocate for important budgetary issues including funding to bring healthy food options to underserved communities.  AHA will request legislators to support continued funding for the Healthy Food Financing Initiative, a DASH-NY policy priority.  Contact Kristin Salvi at Kristin.Salvi@heart.org for more information.

Active Transportation Advocacy Day

Come out and support an essential DASH-NY priority – dedicated funding for Complete Streets.  While the Complete Streets law was passed in 2011, lack of funds have halted projects across the state.  We will be asking legislators to support dedicated funding from the Department of Transportation to help every New York street be a Complete Street. Find out more here!

New Yorkers for Public Transit Advocacy Day:

Transit managers, riders, labor and businesses will convene in Albany on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 for Transit Awareness Day. The event will emphasize the public transit industry’s value to New York State’s economy and underscore the need for the state to make the investment necessary to preserve public transit’s value to the communities it serves. Find out more information and support NYS public transit!

School Nutritionists Advocacy Day

School Nutrition Service staff, directors, and supporters will be in Albany to advocate for increased funding for school food.  Part of the increased funding is a DASH-NY priority.  DASH-NY and the New York School Nutrition Association (NYSNA) are requesting funding for an incentive to increase purchasing of local foods.  Purchasing from local farmers means more fresh fruits and vegetables and less processed meal items.  Support healthier school food and join NYSNA in Albany!  Contact Jim Liebow at james.liebow@bcs1.org for more information.
