The New York Academy of Medicine and Bicycle Utopia asked the students at the Dream Charter School in East Harlem, NY, that question at a June event created to get them excited about biking, the outdoors and great places to see in the city.
The event—a BikeART Party—is a concept created by Jeanne Hilary, founder of Bicycle Utopia, an organization that “promotes everyday biking, creative expression and facilitates access to New York City’s art and cultural offerings.” The Academy gave the BikeART Party to encourage some of our youngest neighbors to get out and ride, yet another way to enhance urban health.
The BikeART Party concept is simple. Hilary, a professional photographer and self-proclaimed bike lover, sets up a pop-up studio and allows the kids to pick from a selection of bikes donated from Recycle-A-Bicycle. The kids pick the backdrop for the ride of their dreams and pose. All the kids are eligible to win a bike sponsored by Bicycle Habitat. The winner will be announced at a party at the Lomography Gallery on June 30, 2016.
